Dr (John) Joseph McGuinness OAM
Dr John McGuinness has recently retired from clinical practice as a consultant anaesthetist. He worked at St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst NSW since the 1960s. He did his first Interplast program to Solomon Islands in 1989 and at least one program almost every year since with multiple programs in some years. His total program involvement exceeds 30 mobilisations.
John has supported Interplast programs in Fiji, Kiribati, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Vietnam. In addition to his program involvement, John is an Associate Member of Interplast and served on the Development Committee from 1988 to 2015. He has actively participated in Interplast fundraising and has regularly presented on behalf of Interplast to many Rotary Clubs. In appreciation of his contributions to Rotary and Interplast, John was recognised as an ’honorary Rotarian’.
Mr John Georgakis
Mr John Georgakis served as an Interplast Director for a period of nine years until his retirement in November 2019. During that period John also fulfilled the role of Treasurer and Vice President. John was an active Director, regularly being seen within the Interplast office to:
- Provide mentoring and coaching support to the previous Chief Executive Officer
- Conduct internal audit activities to provide the Board with clarity and comfort
- Mentor junior finance staff within Interplast.
In addition to his finance and director functions, John was an active fundraiser on behalf of Interplast, regularly participating in fundraising initiatives including the Eureka Stair Climb, Black and White Balls and other smaller initiatives. John also assisted with strategic planning of fundraising activities in conjunction with the Interplast fundraising team.
Today, John maintains an active interest in Interplast and has assisted the Chief Executive Officer with strategic advice. He remains willing to speak on behalf of the organisation and advocate where invited.
