It is with immense sadness that everyone involved with Interplast Australia & New Zealand mourn the passing of our valued volunteer, friend and surgical colleague, Dr Tim Proudman AM, who passed away peacefully following his long battle with cancer.
Until his passing, Tim was our Country Coordinator for Bhutan, a recently appointed Honoured Member and has an Interplast scholarship named in his honour in recognition of his dedication to training and professional development of emerging surgical leaders. More than anything, he was a dear friend and colleague who will be missed by many.
During his time volunteering with Interplast, Tim helped shape our programs in Bhutan and oversaw the appointment and training of Bhutan’s first Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon in Dr. Sonam Jamtsho.
Just weeks ago, Dr Jamtsho returned to Bhutan following a 12-month training placement in Adelaide, organised by Tim. The skills he gained during this placement, together with the extensive 1:1 mentoring received under Tim’s guidance and leadership, means Sonam returns to Bhutan ready to build upon the foundations established by Tim and the Interplast volunteers who have worked alongside him.
Bhutan’s future surgical success has been built on the shoulders of Dr. Proudman.
To continue Tim’s legacy, the Proudman family have kindly asked for donations to Interplast in lieu of flowers. These funds will be held and utilised to continue the outstanding work of Tim in Bhutan, and to ensure long-term success and good health for the people of Bhutan.

Tim represented everything good about our organisation – a commitment to excellence, a desire to empower individuals and a belief that we could change systems for the better. Upon his passing, the world lost a shining light. Please join us in remembering a truly wonderful man and paying our respects to his tremendous family – Susanna, Rebecca, Charlotte, Will and the extended Proudman family.
May he rest in peace.
