Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Interplast!
Interplast programs utilise the following types of nurses:
- scrub/scout nurses,
- anaesthetic/PACU nurses,
- plastics ward nurses
- nurse educators (see separate application form for nurse educators)
As part of the application process, you are required to upload a letter of motivation, a letter of reference, your current CV, a copy of your current nursing registration certificate and a copy of your current BLS certification (must have been obtained within the last year). We advise for you to gather these first and then fill out the form below.

Requirements
Scrub/Scout Nurses
- Minimum of three years operating room experience in a hospital or surgical centre.
- Must be currently working as an operating room nurse and must work a minimum of 400 hours/year in an operating room setting.
- Must be willing and able to provide education to local counterparts.
- Must have at least two years of operating room experience relating to plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Anaesthetic/PACU Nurses
- Minimum of three years experience in a hospital or surgical centre.
- Must be currently working as an anaesthetic/PACU nurse and must work a minimum of 400 hours/ year in an acute setting.
- Must have a current Advanced Life Support certification.
- Must have at least two years of anaesthetic/PACU experience.
- Must be willing and able to provide education to local counterparts.
- Patient population must include both adult and paediatric patients.
- Preference may be given to nurses who have recently completed the ‘recognising and responding to the deteriorating patient’ course.
Plastics Ward Nurses
- Minimum of three years experience in a hospital or surgical centre working for a plastic surgeon.
- Must be currently working as a ward nurse/practice nurse and must work a minimum of 400 hours/ year in an acute setting.
- Knowledge of wound healing, infection control principles, skin grafts, cleft lip/palate and hand surgery.
- Ability to adapt practice to what can be reproduced with available local resources.
- Must be willing and able to provide education to local counterparts.
What happens next?
When we receive your application, it will be reviewed by the Interplast team, including, where necessary, members of our advisory groups, to ensure that you meet the requirements of volunteering for Interplast. We will confirm receipt of your application and let you know whether or not you have been successful in being added to our pool of volunteers. Please note that Interplast is in a fortunate position to have more volunteers than it is able to send on programs, and this, alongside the 4-6 month lead time required to mobilise volunteer teams, means that it may be an extended period until Interplast is able to find a suitable volunteer position for you. We appreciate your patience!
